The Red Power Suit
Being a child of the 60′s and a teen of the 70′s my formative years were spent riding just behind the wave of feminists who challenged the established patriarchy. I enjoyed the newly won freedoms and my awareness grew as new injustices were highlighted and overcome. My school years were subject to many silly rules – for instance it was radical that I played ‘mens basketball’ (netball was actually called ‘ladies basketball’). The church team I played for was made up of a group of tomboys who actually stayed together as a team from age 9 through to about age 15. The desire of my heart became to ‘beat boys’ and it still is a joy to do so – if I have a choice whether to oppose a male or a female, the victory...
